Keep Your Desktop Uncluttered
August 17th 2006 00:47
Desktop filled with shortcuts of programs you use frequently? If you have more than 2 rows of icons on your desktop, you probably would find that sometimes it’s hard for you to find what you want to click on. Heres a simple way to manage your desktop space better; use custom toolbars.
The first step is to create a folder (I named mine “Program Shortcuts”) and dump all your shortcuts from the desktop to the folder. The next step is to right click on your taskbar and unlock it (if that has not been done). Then right click on it again and select “Toolbars – New Toolbar”. You will now see a new window which allows you to pick a folder. Select the folder that you created with all your shortcuts in and click on “OK”. You will then notice a new “toolbar” on the right hand side of your taskbar. You can now drag this toolbar (just click on the new toolbar and drag it) to anywhere on your desktop. You can even dock it on the sides of your desktop which I have done.
If you right click on your new toolbar, you have a host of customizable options that you may use, such as the “auto hide” function (if it is docked). You can also arrange the order of your shortcuts by dragging and dropping them anywhere in the toolbar. This technique can also be used on other stuff such as documents, music files etc.
